A New Partnership

What is the objective of a financial planning firm? To make money for their clients. Sure. But our financial advisers know it goes beyond that. It’s about providing clients with confidence in their future. But what about those in our community for whom financial security is out of reach?

Hewison Private Wealth has a long history of philanthropy.  In the past we have provided pro bono advice to those in need and have also contributed financially to causes close to our heart.

In 2015 we took our philanthropy a step further. We launched the Hewison Foundation.

What is the Hewison Foundation and what does it do?

The Hewison Foundation’s objective is to raise funds for community based, not for profit services that aim to reduce the level of disadvantage.

The Foundation recently announced an exciting partnership with the Sacred Heart Mission, based just down the road in St Kilda.

Over time, the Hewison Foundation will channel distributions solely to Sacred Heart or reinvest back into the Foundation for future growth.

What does the Sacred Heart Mission do?

With a focus on the homeless and severely disadvantaged, Sacred Heart does a lot. And it’s real, tangible work. Traditionally focussed in the St Kilda area they’re beginning to cast their support net into other suburbs. And their experience, research and policy work extends Australia wide.

Did you know?

  • Sacred Heart provides over 400 free meals per day in their dining hall – just down the road from the Hewison Private Wealth office
  • And nearby, there’s a separate women’s drop in house – a safe place for women and children to attend, providing showers and clean clothes if required.

There are also Sacred Heart owned and run medical rooms offering complementary practices like physio, massage, acupuncture – even a haircut.

The Hewison Foundation will be supporting two particular areas of Sacred Heart:

  1. The Women’s program, including the women’s drop in house
  1. ‘Journey to Inclusion’. An innovative program aiming to break the cycle of homelessness – rather than just band aid the ugly bits.

Participants in the program will be supported with three years of uninterrupted housing as well as intensive counselling and trauma therapy. Later down the track they’ll undertake job training and personal skills development.

At its core the program aims to take someone who has essentially dropped out of everyday society and encourage them to become a vital member of their community.

What can you do?

The Hewison Foundation is determined to make a long term meaningful difference in the community. We are putting our money where our mouth is. Providing financial assistance to Sacred Heart, specifically the Woman’s Program and Journey to Social Inclusion, is our way of achieving this.

But we need help building the corpus of the Hewison Foundation in order to generate long lasting, meaningful returns for distribution to Sacred Heart.

You can help us make a difference via direct donations or bequests to the Hewison Foundation.  The Foundation provides you with peace of mind that the money and grants are expertly managed. All donations over $2 are fully tax deductible.

Or if you have a love of golf the Hewison Foundation are holding a fundraising golf day on Friday, 19 May. It’s your chance to play at the prestigious Victoria Golf Club. Participation is $250 per person – and it’s tax deductible.
