The Hewison Foundation is a public ancillary fund raising funds for community based, not for profit services that aim to reduce the level of disadvantage.
In 2017, 2018 and beyond our sole beneficiary is the Sacred Heart Mission, based in St Kilda. And one of the areas our money is channelled is into their innovative Journey to Social Inclusion program.
Journey to Social Inclusion (J2SI) program aims to break the cycle of chronic homelessness through a three year program of housing, job training and mental health programs. This is a leading edge model that is having real success.
Last month the Hon. Martin Foley official launched the Victorian Government’s first Social Impact Investment. This Social Impact Investment enables Sacred Heart to deliver the J2SI program to over 180 people.
Results from Phase II of the program are showing significantly higher rates of stable housing and job placements combined with fewer incidences of hospitalisation and critical drug rehabilitation interventions.
The funds committed by the Hewison Foundation, the government and other philanthropic arms has been integral to the ongoing success of this long term program. We are proud to be involved with such a caring organisation and innovative program.
